Your colony

Your colony is you in the middle and the people you’ve bonded with around you. A bond is the link between two pengs, and it always points both ways — if they’re in your colony, you’re in theirs.

So which one do I use?

When someone adds you

In Settings, choose whether new bonds land automatically or wait for you under Review first. In Penguin World, Settings is in the Menu.

Read the chemistry

When you add someone you say how you know them — Partner, Crush, Friend, Family, Colleague — and that picks whether your free read is written through the romantic or the friendship lens. That label is yours alone; they never see how you filed them.

Once your peng is saved, tap Enter Penguin World on My peng. Fish, cook, shop, open treasure chests, dress your penguin and give gifts. It’s free to play.

Getting started FAQ

What is a colony on MyPengs?

Your colony is your side of MyPengs: you in the middle and the people you've bonded with around you. They are your friends, and in Penguin World they are listed under My pengs. Everyone has their own colony, and each bond is two-way — if someone is in your colony, you're in theirs.

How do I invite someone to my colony?

In Penguin World, open My pengs and tap Invite friends to share your invite link — one link works for a group chat and drops everyone who joins into your colony, with you landing in theirs. Tap Add a friend to look someone up by @handle, email one person an invite, or add them yourself. You can also share your @handle page so they can ask to be your friend.

What happens to the other person when I invite them?

They get the ten-second quiz. If they already have a peng, joining is a single tap. Either way you both end up in each other's colonies, and the chemistry read between you is free for both of you.

Can I add someone without contacting them?

Yes. If you already know which penguin someone is, tap Add a friend in My pengs and add them yourself — pick their peng, or answer the four questions as them. Nobody is contacted, we never ask for a way to reach them, and the read is yours alone.

Someone added me — do I have to accept?

No. A friend request from someone's handle page waits in My pengs, under Waiting for you, until you accept or decline it, and declining tells them nothing. Someone who joins through your link or adds you can wait there too: Welcome them, Decline, or tap Not now to set them aside quietly under Not on my list, where you can welcome them later. In Settings, from the world's Menu, you can also switch new bonds to Review first, so every arrival waits until you welcome it.

Can people see how I labeled them?

No. How you know someone — partner, crush, friend, family, colleague — is private to you, and so is any nickname you give them. It only decides whether your chemistry read is written through a romantic or a friendship lens.

Do I have to pay to connect with people?

No. The quiz, your peng, your full report, your colony, every chemistry read, the Diary and Penguin World are free. The only thing MyPengs sells is Shinies at Sammy Bank, and you never need them to connect with anyone.

What is Penguin World?

Penguin World is a 3D world where your penguin lives. Save your peng and you move straight in; after that, tap Enter Penguin World on My peng. You get a home to build and decorate, the people in your colony have homes nearby (sign their guestbook when you visit, and see their trophy case), and there are places to visit: a café, a bar, a bookstore, a salon, a tailor, a pizza place, a fishing spot and Sammy Bank. Fish, cook, shop, run a shift at Pengpang Tycoon, race sleighs in Flipper Drift, compare this week's rankings with your friends, give gifts and dress your penguin. It's free to play. People you're bonded with see your penguin dressed the way you dressed it.

Are Scenes written by AI?

Yes. A Scene is a short story with your characters at a place in Penguin World. AI writes it from the cast you pick and anything you type in "What happens?", and everyone in it is an AI character, not a person. You get two free Scenes a day; after that a Scene costs 30 Shinies. If what you type sounds like someone may be in crisis, no Scene is made and you see ways to reach support instead.

What are Shinies, and do I have to buy them?

Shinies are Penguin World's one currency. You start with 500 and earn more from treasure chests, selling fish, your visit streak, sleigh-race trophies, shifts at Pengpang Tycoon and friends you invite. If you want more, Sammy Bank sells 100 Shinies for $0.99, 550 for $4.99, or 1,200 for $9.99 (US dollars, before any tax), paid through Stripe's secure checkout. Shinies have no cash value and are non-refundable except as our Refund Policy or the law requires. If you're under the age of majority where you live, you need a parent's or guardian's permission to buy them. You never need Shinies for your peng, your report, your colony, chemistry or the Diary.

What is the Diary?

The Diary is a chat with your own penguin about your day, for free. Your penguin asks how it went and replies to what you share. It is an AI character, not a person: the replies are written by AI, and you can see or forget what it remembers in your notebook. If something you write sounds like someone may be in crisis, your penguin doesn't answer; you see ways to reach a real person right away. Our Safety page explains how this works.
